Commerce OIG report on Wilbur Ross and Census citizenship question
Following an administrative appeal, CREW received a less redacted version of the Commerce OIG’s investigative report into Secretary Wilbur Ross’ misrepresentations to Congress about the origin of the proposal to include a citizenship question on the 2020 Census. The most recent release reveals names of the officials who were working within Commerce, DOJ, and the White House to try and facilitate the addition of a citizenship question.
Read the release hereFollowing a FOIA request, CREW has obtained the unreleased report from the Department of Commerce’s Office of Inspector General wherein they found that Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross misrepresented the reasons for the proposed reinstatement of the citizenship question on the 2020 Census. The IG forwarded the report to the Department of Justice who then chose to decline prosecution of Ross.
