Washington—More than 100,000 people have signed a petition calling on Attorney General Bill Barr to resign from his post as the top-ranking official at the Department of Justice. The petition, distributed by Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW), outlines how Barr is more committed to protecting the president than protecting the rule of law, from smearing the Mueller investigation and misleading the public about the Mueller report’s contents to repeated interventions in criminal cases on behalf of the president’s political cronies.

“Attorney General Barr’s actions are exactly what we would expect from someone more concerned with maintaining loyalty to the president than with upholding the Constitution and serving as the chief law enforcement officer of the United States. His behavior has been deeply problematic since he was sworn in, but in recent months has become truly dangerous,” said CREW Executive Director Noah Bookbinder. “As Attorney General, Barr has continually demonstrated his belief that the president — and those who work for him — are above the law. His actions are a blatant violation of the public’s trust and undermine the integrity of the Department of Justice and indeed our entire justice system. If Barr truly cared about restoring the American people’s faith in justice, he would resign immediately.”

CREW today submitted the 103,817 names electronically to the Department of Justice.
