CREW files DOJ complaint on Trump Organization using Presidential Seal
CREW filed a complaint with the Department of Justice (DOJ) to investigate an improper display of the Presidential Seal as featured on Trump Organization brand golf tee markers. The tee markers will reportedly be featured on Trump International golf courses.
The replica of the Presidential Seal on products that actively advertise the president’s private business violates laws regarding the likeness of the seal. Federal law prohibits any use of the seal that would convey a false impression of government sponsorship or endorsement.
President Trump’s display of the official seal on his privately owned business properties presents a conflict of interest worth investigating.
Although the White House Counsel’s Office typically handles matters of this kind, because the potential violation involves companies owned by President Trump, CREW requested that the DOJ’s Criminal Division examine the use, display, and sale of the seal.
