Following Cassidy Hutchinson’s testimony before the January 6th Committee, CREW Vice President and Chief Counsel Donald Sherman released the following statement:

Cassidy Hutchinson’s testimony made crystal clear that former President Trump engaged in an unprecedented and criminal effort to overthrow the government by force. Encouraging a supportive mob he knew to be armed with guns to descend on the certification of an election, attempting to choke a Secret Service agent, and approving of chants to hang Vice President Pence make Trump an existential threat to our democracy. Donald Trump’s crimes now seem to amount to an attempt to defraud the United States, obstruction of an official proceeding and criminal sedition, among others. It is imperative that the FBI and Justice Department investigate the full extent of Trump’s wrongdoing and charge him if the evidence supports it.
